        The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Before half term the Nursery children took delivery of 33 caterpillars .  We nurtured and observed them and waited for them to turn into ‘beautiful butterflies!’

The children enjoyed learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly through the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We extended the learning by exploring non fiction books , making repeating pattern caterpillars, exploring the colours red  and green and playing number and language games .

At snack time we explored the different fruits that the Hungry Caterpillar ate. The children also used the fruits in cookery. They made delicious orange biscuits and strawberry milkshake !

When we returned from the half term holiday the children were excited to see if our sleeping cocoons had hatched…and they had ! We observed and fed the butterflies before releasing them into the garden.
